The National Maths Community Network (NMCN) leads projects to connect the maths education system, collaborate with others, and grow both teachers’ professional practice and students’ mathematical understanding.

Founded in 2026 by Aidan Gollaglee, this passion project is built around a desire to improve maths education for everyone.

Aidan has worked in education since 2015 and has been volunteering in education since 2008. Growing up in a rural coastal town, in an area of particularly low aspiration, Aidan always believed education could be more.

At university he saw what rich experiences many of his peers had at school and, at that moment, saw the inequalities within education. After completing a degree in mathematics and a short stint working within the aerospace industry, he decided to train to teach. Aidan was awarded a Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarship from the IMA and went on to study his PGCE at King’s College London. Since then, Aidan has worked across London as a KS4 lead, Head of Mathematics, Lead Practitioner, Assistant Maths Hub Lead, Assistant Head (Primary), Trust Strategic Lead and, latterly, Maths Hub Lead.

In working to support schools facing challenging circumstances, he observed that often, in those schools, the teachers were disconnected from the wider maths system and so did not have the opportunity to access the professional development required to make the changes they needed.

The system is full of expertise and free opportunities for pupils and teachers. However, the system is also a disjointed one and it is hard to navigate whilst working full-time in a school.

In the hope of bringing that system together under one banner (much like Alfred the Great did with the Kingdom of England) the National Maths Community Network was born.
